About Us

John Connor and Ed Silva founded Vantage Builders in 2000, with the intent of starting a firm that would enable them to stay involved with each client and also provide a full range of services.  Now more than 15 years later, the firm employs more than 30 professionals – each focused on delivering the highest level of service to ensure our clients’ success.  We are very proud of the team we’ve assembled and continue to invest in our employees’ development and growth opportunities within the organization.  We maintain open lines of communication throughout the firm and to our clients and empower each of our team members to be responsible and accessible for any project they are assigned to.    


John Connor 

John is a founding principal of Vantage Builders, with more than 25 years of general contracting and construction industry experience.  He is responsible for company operations, new business development and management of day-to-day business processes, including finance and human resources.  As a project executive for the firm, he is also involved with each client engagement, a core principle and critical differentiator of Vantage Builders.  

Having earned a bachelor’s degree in Historic Preservation and Architecture from Roger Williams University, John is able to see each project from the standpoint of the designer/architect.  By complementing his education with on-the-ground experience in construction, John brings a unique set of skills to every client engagement. 

Prior to founding Vantage Builders in 2000, John held project management and business development roles at a large general contracting firm.  He has successfully completed projects in a wide range of industries, including the office, retail, life sciences, educational and medical markets.  He is actively involved in several industry organizations, including SIOR, NAIOP, IFMA and IIDA.

Ed Silva

Ed is a founding principal of Vantage Builders, with more than 25 years of general contracting and construction industry experience.  At Vantage he is responsible for all aspects of construction management including: budgeting, estimating, scheduling, cost evaluation, subcontractor evaluation and post-construction follow-through.  He also oversees the firm’s commitment to site safety, quality control, and customer satisfaction.  As a project executive for the firm, he is involved with each client project, a core principle and critical differentiator of Vantage Builders.  

Prior to founding Vantage Builders, Ed worked at a large general contracting firm, starting as a superintendent, then managing the maintenance division and being promoted to project management and business development.  He has successfully completed projects throughout New England in a variety of vertical industry markets.  Ed is actively involved with a variety of groups, including Vistage International, IFMA, the Acton Wakefield Watersheds Alliance and Maine DEP.

Senior Management Team

Darla Brooks, VP of Finance and Human Resources

Darla joined Vantage Builders in 2003 and is one of the firm’s most tenured employees.  She is responsible for supervising the firm’s accounting and financial reporting functions and also oversees the firm’s human resources and training functions.  

With more than 20 years of accounting experience in the general contracting industry, Darla is an invaluable resource to the firm, our clients and to the many companies we work with.  Prior to joining Vantage Builders, she was the controller for Boston Light Electrical and was previously an accounting manager for a local construction company.  Darla earned her accounting degree from Newbury College, taking classes at night while working full-time, and she is a notary public.


Margaret Cachel, Project Services Manager

As Vantage’s project services manager, Margaret manages the firm’s team of project coordinators.  Under her direction, the PCs serve a critical role in each client engagement, including assisting with bidding, managing project schedules, contacting subcontractors, and providing clients with complete and accurate sets of close-out documentation.  

Additionally, Margaret develops project operations systems for company-wide implementation, ensuring they are being used correctly and efficiently.  She is also the primary member of Vantage’s estimating team, responsible for developing project budgets and estimates, creating bid packages and managing budget tracking tools.  

Margaret has more than 25 years in project coordination and contract management.  Prior to joining Vantage in 2012, she was a project contract administrator for Energy Management of New England for 18 years and a design engineer for Syska Hennessy Group for seven years. 

She graduated from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland, and has taken lighting design courses at NYU and Parsons School of Design.  Margaret is a Notary Public and volunteers at Concord Academy conducting prospective parents’ tours.

Kelly MacLean, Director of Operations

Kelly is Vantage Builders’ director of operations, responsible for developing, implementing and reviewing the firm’s operational efficiency, cost control management and internal procedures. She is also a member of the firm’s senior management team.

Kelly has more than 15 years of experience in the construction industry, directing operations, overseeing complex, multi-million dollar projects and managing cross-functional teams. Prior to joining Vantage Builders, she was a chief operating officer for Liberty Construction, establishing the firm’s West Coast division.

Previously she was the vice president of construction and development at O’Neill Properties, working on both commercial and residential projects, including a $60 million, 229-unit residential development, and the director of operations at Drywall, Ltd.

Kelly earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Emmanuel College, where she was named a Presidential Scholar. She is a member of the National Association of Women in Construction and a LEED Green Associate. She coaches youth soccer in Easton, Mass.
